Arlene “Sugar” Al-Amin is the Rich Township Clerk, a Community Leader, and Bridge Builder. Clerk Arlene Al-Amin is a hands-on elected official that participates and is available to all in her Rich Township Community. Clerk Al-Amin has a passion for inclusiveness, and for all to reach their full potential, so she works tirelessly by being involved in multiple initiatives.
Clerk Al-Amin also takes pride in having a strong, committed, and consistent team as her appointed Deputy Clerk, Devon Taylor, helps her facilitate the Clerk’s Department as well as other projects.
Her involvement doesn’t stop with her position, she currently is the Board President, of The South Suburban Council (SSC) on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Active Member of Democratic Women of Southland Region (DWSR), Secretary of the Rich Township Democrats Organization (RTDO), Past President of Flossmoor Service League, Past Community Relations Commissioner of Village of Flossmoor, and past volunteer at the Jones Community Center in Chicago Heights where she spearheaded, Miss Sugar’s class for Daily Affirmations, Food and Health Awareness and Etiquette for the children that were apart of the center.
Her most precious accomplishment is her beautiful, blended family that she shares with her husband, Rafi- Al-Amin. Her favorite past time is spending time with her beautiful granddaughter.

Responsibilities of the Clerk
The Township Clerk is the ex-officio clerk of the Road District, the local election authority, and keeps all township and road district records except for general assistance case records.
The clerk is also responsible for organizing board meetings and posting legal announcements for the township and road district.
The Clerk additionally countersigns orders or vouchers and has the authority to administer the oath of office.
